Question LeCie 500gb ex hd: good buy?

Hey guys...

Not sure where my last post went but..
I'm planning on buying a 500gb external hard drive for my mp3s..

found this:

http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-LaCie_Big_Disk_500_GB

I'm planning on buying the usb version: about 60 bucks cheaper than the firewire version.

Good deal or bad deal?

I would love to hear from you guys.

The mods have to validate everyone's first couple of posts - keeps the people that are only here to advertise out.

Dunno much about external drives, but it looks OK. Release date of 11/2003 so you should be able to get it on the cheap.

Hi there - I used to use one of these at work to run nightly backups. Me and my counterparts at other locations all had similar problems with these drives. Do a google search on Lacie + "Delayed write failed" and you will see we were not the only ones.

Since then we've switched to an I-Omega external drive & it hasn't failed once.

food for thought!

Re: LeCie 500gb ex hd: good buy?

i have always been under the impression that all the 500GB lacie drives will interface with both firewire and usb2, at least all the ones i have seen will. As for reliability, i have been running one 24/7 for the last 9 months with no probs including several live time multi track recordings at 24/96. No complaints at all with my lacie....
