Acquiring raw files via FTP or file sharing?

I am trying to get a 24 bit raw file of a recording so I can track it and upload it. I assume it's about 1GB in size.

Does anyone know how someone could send it to me over the internet so I could get this size wav file?

Your buddy should create a torrent, and in the tracker url he/she just has to put his/her IP address : port used for torrent sharing/announce - for example: http://1.22.333.4444:6464/announce

Then he/she should e-mail you the torrent file. That's all.

pawel, is Azureus still the only bittorrent application where you can make/announce your own torrent or does utorrent now have the capability? (Sorry, I'm on a mac, so I don't have access to utorrent.)

you can on utorrent also. It's much more complicated though.

What's wrong with good ole FTP. just setup the server on one end and use ie to download it.

There are also places like yousendit that allow file sizes larger than that.

Re: Acquiring raw files via FTP or file sharing?

Thanks for the input everyone.

I'm trying to make it easy on the taper because he doesn't really care for the band and is just doing it as a favor to me, and eventually others.

I may ask him about creating a torrent but I'm not sure what torrent app he uses. He also may not be into it. He said that he prefers an ftp.

Also, saltman is there any particular ftp you recommend. I don't have too much problems downloading from ftp but whenever I have tried to upload to an ftp it says I don't have permission or something like that. Is there one where we could both get access easily?

I wasn't able to find a filesharing site like yousendit that will do that large of file unless you pay. I'm sure I won't be using it often so I was hoping for a free one, or at least a free trial. Does anyone know about that?

Re: Acquiring raw files via FTP or file sharing?

Why not set up GuildFTP or some ftp server yourself, then your friend can connect directly to you to send the file?

There are ftp/websites you can access, but they mostly have size limits of up to 1gb. I used to use files-upload.com before they screwed that site up and took the ftp access offline.

Google around a bit for free ftp/web file sites (megaupload, files-upload.com, etc.)

here's the method for using utorrent, I tried it once its not difficult & works great.
http://www.poromenos.org/tutorials/bittorrent

ps probably goes without saying but get him to FLAC the uncut WAV, that or at least zip/rar it to bring down the filesize a lot without losing any quality.

Looks like this one if free with 800 MB limit (per file?): http://www.backupwebtown.com/community/help_faq.php

Re: Acquiring raw files via FTP or file sharing?

Thanks everyone for all the info.

I found another site that looks like it will take 1GB...

http://www.transferbigfiles.com/default.aspx

But I think I like the tutorial Five directed me to. That looks great and really up my alley. I hope the other guy is into it too. It looks easy.

Thanks a lot Five. I will hopefully let you know how it turns out.

I'm still open to suggestions if anyone else has any.

Plus, this will be a helpful thread to others since I didn't see anything else on this topic.

there is always a utility like hjsplit to break it up into smaller blocks.
