Re: avi files
Burn them to a data disc for archival purposes? Yes.
Burn them as a video DVD? I think Nero now comes with some tools to author a DVD. I don't think it does it 'on the fly' though. No members have liked this post.

Re: avi files
Nero Vision Express will do .avi to DVD compliant authoring on the fly. It's pretty damn fast too. I could do 88 minutes of .avi to DVD in about 120 minutes.
Sadly, the program started making coasters. I uninstalled Express, then uninstalled Nero and reinstalled them one at a time and still made coasters. So, I'm getting a DVD player that plays .avi files as data. Think of it as a cd player for your car that also plays .mp3. .mp3 - 700 mb of songs is to cd audio - 80 minutes of songs as .avi - 4.3 gb of shows is to dvd - 120 minutes of shows It's the Phillips DVP-642, if you're curious. I've been around, just not posting very much. Somehow the lounge turned into a shithole for me.
I still like reading the technobabble threads. Hi to you... Quote:

Re: avi files
I had the same experience as ColinM with Nero Vision Express. Sometimes it works great and sometimes it locks up and you make coasters (the latter more often than the former for me). I also tried one of those AVI converter programs, but that didn't work reliably either -- produced DVDs that had skips and dropouts.

Re: avi files
for what its worth, the quality of the avi > dvd conversion is not only dependent on the prog used to convert, but also the compression setting of the orig avi...avi can be heavily compressed [like an mp3] or "raw" avi [high quality/no comp]
check videohelp.com might give some other progs to do this conversion No members have liked this post.
