Is BT safe?
I do not want to offend but the wife is curious and I am still learning all of this.
She is concerned that BT might expose our pc to the same things peer-to-peer networks like Kazaa do. How can I convince her that she is being overly concerned? What is different about BT? Again, I apologize if anyone takes offense to this question, I just need to keep everything copacetic on the homefront. No members have liked this post.

Re: Is BT safe?
as long as you have a decent firewall/anti-virus pregram, your chances of being infected are slim...on top of that, its much harder to embed flac/shn files, or a video file [.ifo, .bup, .vob], with a virus or trojan than it is an executable file [tho not impossible of course]...third, the BT community involved with live show trading is a fairly tight-knit community...if someone "caught" a virus on this site [or any of the other live show BT sites], EVERYONE would know quickly...
i've only been involved in BT trading for about 3 years now, but i have never heard of anyone gettin any sort of virus/trojan/malware from a trading site...not that its not possible, but the likelihood of yer computer crashing because of using BT here at The Den is far less than yer computer crashing trying to update yer Microsoft OS of course, if she's worried about all the potential "issues" on the web, you ought to just look into a Mac the next time around No members have liked this post.

Re: Is BT safe?
There's no risk. don't worry about it.
AAR.oner... would you care to comment on this. http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/bulletins/SB2005.html. Linux/Unix (including Mac OS) had almost three times the number of OS-specific vulnerabilities http://www.informationweek.com/story...Sfeed_IWK_news reported last year compared to Microsoft Windows.

Re: Is BT safe?
I started in November 2003 (STG days), no funny files or odd requests of my firewall in any torrent. Pretty much seeding or leeching 24/7 since that month.
Enjoy! No members have liked this post.

The main thing is to get your torrents from reliable sites...

I know from my own experience it's way more fun and gratifying to mess up millions of computers than just thousands. Oops. Perhaps I've said too much. No members have liked this post.
