music managers/ players
hey guys,
i've been lookin at a few music managers for my insanely large collection, and the two i find to be decent are as follows - i just want to get a little input first if possible. they both support flac, ape, wav, etc. 1. helium - http://www.helium-music-manager.com/ 2. orangecd - http://www.firetongue.com/ no i'm not promoting these! - just for you all to compare i don't like the foobar cause it is a pain in the ass to set the way i want - ya gotta be a computer guru for that program. it toook me 4 hours to get it half way decent and i still need to work on it.i figure time is money so i don't want to spend hours configuring a program when i can buy one for $50.00 or so. i am looking for input before i fork out the 40 dollars for ea one of these. it seems the orange is more for bootlegs, and the other is for a little bit of everything. so far it's a tossup, i downloaded 10 today and the others suck! any help from the people out there would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Evan

Re: music managers/ players
check if they support FLAC, SHN and APE
Helium looks better simply because they've got an excellent support forum for it. (also noticed that it supports FLAC, not certain about SHN/APE et al). I don't have any idea what sets these apart from other progs with library functions such as WinAmp or even Windows Media Player. It looks like something my Mum would buy simply because she's not "in the loop". Like those gazillion cd ripping programs with no error correction or reason to exist for $40 each. foobar is cutting edge because its made by audio enthusiasts, might be worth looking into more.

Re: music managers/ players
foobar2000 (getting hard to find the SHN plugin these days, tho... let me know if you want to downgrade to 0.8.3 special installer which comes with it and I'll post a link).
WinAmp http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7

Re: music managers/ players
I went with winamp, with shn plugin, and got the orangecd to view library and track all bootlegs the way I want to. Who I lend to and such.
Am adding screen shots of my orangecd set up so you can see exactly what it looks like. These are not the way they come, I set colors to look this way. anyway - wanted to show it - not trying to push product - works for me BTW - I don't know where the F i've been - winamp is golden.
