Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

sorry for the delay, Toys...

The first CDR that appears in the lineage would be CDR(0) or (M). Then your copy that you are going to extract from is CDR(1). It's confusing that he extracted it with EAC then burned an audio cdr it would have been nicer to get a data cdr but we all do what we can. I would write it like this:
SBD > Tascam DA-P1 > DAT(M) > Tascam CD-RW 700 > CDR(0) > EAC > Hard Drive > Easy CD Creator 5 > CD(1)

I would use the (M) for the DAT, then (0) for the first CDR to indicate that it's a clone. Then add what you do at the end, which will probably be > EAC > FLAC

Thanks Lynne and Five!

Yeah I asked him for a data cdr, and he said he didn't know how to make one - only knew how to make audio CDs. I always wondered why I'd see a bunch of mics at a show, but then the show would never show up anywhere. The more tapers I meet though, the more it turns out that many of them simply don't know or care to learn about electronic sharing of their tapes. Their hobby is more for their own enjoyment or making a couple of CDs for close friends. Gotta be millions and millions of shows out there that we'll never see. Guys with thousands of shows taped who don't even have internet access. Ah well.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I'd like to upload a torrent of this White Stripes show here today:

2004-08-01 Fuji Rock Festival, Naeba Ski Resort, Niigata, Japan.

Lineage: DSM6S(L)>PA6LC3B>SONY-PCM-M1>DAT(M)>CDR(0)>EAC(secure mode)>FLAC

I corrected the text file from CDR(1) to CDR(0) because that is the only CDR in the lineage. Is this OK for TTD?

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I would say the above is absolutely ok for TTD.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I'm wanting to seed the following Porcupine Tree show here (well, external link actually):

2001-04-28 Centro Sociale Leoncavallo; Milano, Italy

Source: Aud>MD Master>CDR>CDR>EAC>MKWACT>SHN

I'm not quite certain if the CDR>CDR part was a typo or not. I haven't seen this show on too many lists, but the few instances I've seen it show up on someone else's list showed the exact same thing for lineage. It seems like a lot of Porcupine Tree live recordings are plagued by a lack of lineage or less than perfect lineage.

I'm listening through this show right now, and I can assure you it's top notch. Haven't run across any glitches yet, and it passed the SBE check in shntool (and yes, I did generate shntool md5s for it ).

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I have another White Stripes show (2002-10-01 Union Square, New York, NY) I want to seed here soon, but I'm unsure if this lineage OK for TTD. Is it?

Lineage: DSM6>SBM1>D100(DATM)>CDR(2)>SHN

While I'm at it, I'd also like to know if this Led Zeppelin 1971-11-11 source is suitable for seeding here.

Lineage: 1st gen cassette > CDRn > EAC (secure mode, offset corrected) > WAV > Flac Frontend (Level 8)

Thanks in advance!

This looks accecptable to me, though it could be written with CDR(1) instead of CDR>CDR.

I would like to know that EAC was used to extract the CDR, so include that if possible. If unknown, then I would say it's ok if CDR(2) > ? extraction method > SHN were included.

That looks good to me as is.

Thanks for the help.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the CDR>CDR part.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I have a seeding question.
I'm preparing my next torrent. I have two choices - I can post the raw transfer - which is ok, but the recording is quiet.
For myself, I have amplified the sound in Audacity. This si very crude, but it does bring up the basic volume of the show.

So, should I seed the raw transfer, or the amplified version? Does it really matter? (I guess I am asking which version would match the aims of the site?)

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I would seed the amplified version just be positive that no errors such as clipping have been introduced. If there's a huge "clunk" at the end of the recording introduced by stopping the recorder then imo it might be better to lop that off especially if it's 20 times louder than the show. The main things to stay away from are eq, nr and the like. Once this transfer which is (?99%) raw has circulated and in safe hands then you might want to consider releasing a mastered version to the masses.

Do you mean if I included "? extraction method" in the lineage of my seed it would OK?

Thank you, RainDawg!

Yes, there will be a certain amount of chopping away unwanted bits of 'tape' anyway. The problem I have found is that the audience applauce registers quite loudly - louder than the music. So, the amplifying has been done on a sort of track-by-track basis and isn't very smooth. Also, amplifying the sound has increased the level of audible hiss (I think).
As I am relatively new to all this I didn't know if it mattered whether what I released was the closest I could get to what I recorded - or whether it is alright to do some minor work to 'improve' the recording.
As I said, the main worry is that the amplifying process in my hands is a crude one.
I do not intend to remaster the show - I'm just trying to bring it to a state that I find makes it easier for me to listen to it. I have to admit, I would prefer not to do anything - but the recording is too quiet for that.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I was considering seedingn a Zeppelin show, and I wondered if it would be alright to seed a homegrown version of 2.8.75 Philadelphia. I merged a 1st gen tape and a 2nd gen tape with Audacity to fill in several cuts and dropouts. As far as I know, this has been the only attempt to do so other than a shitty, over EQ'd bootleg. I made no alterations to the source other than crossfading tape patches.
