Re: will play on computer, but won't play on dvd

Maybe it's PAL format and your DVD player will only play NTSC?

DVD authoring question

Hi.
I have a downloaded DVD but my burner says that the burning will result in a faulty disc as there is a video_ts.vob file missing. How can I reauthor the dvd?
Thanks.

Re: will play on computer, but won't play on dvd

This thread should help:

http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/...ead.php?t=6599

My suggestion is to go buy a cheap DVD player e.g. Coby or Apex. They can be found at any retailer (Best Buy, WalMart) and are very cheap - $25 - $40. They will play all formats and you'll never have to worry about lossy conversions.

Re: will play on computer, but won't play on dvd

JDUB,

If you want the long answer follow these links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL.

The short versions is NTSC is the video format for American television (I'm assuming you're in America) and PAL is the video format for (primarily) European television. The two are incompatible.

PAL does not generally work on American video equipment and vice versa, though this is becoming much less the case. More than likely, if the video is indeed PAL, you are going to have to convert it to NTSC to get it to play right on your DVD player. It is very easy to do. Follow the link above and look at my suggestion. Or you could buy a DVD player that plays both PAL and NTSC video (I think that’s unnecessary personally).

Rob

I wouldn't trust Nero to do that.

Re: DVD authoring question

Yep, it won't play. video_ts.vob file keeps info on DVD structure and main menu.

Re: DVD authoring question

I think we need a "how to burn a DVD" sticky in this forum. I'd be happy to write one for Taost on Mac. Many new threads from this week exemplify this need.

DVD burning question

I recently downloaded a phish video from this site and am having a problem burning it. All the other videos I've downloaded have been split into two sets. This one is all together in one folder. Its two big to burn all of it on one disk and when I try to split it up and burn half of it with nero I keep getting errors saying I need all the files together. How can I split this up so I can burn it on two disks. Any help is much appriciated.
