multi-tracker torrent help

Is it possible to add another tracker to a torrent after its already started on another site? In other words, ive got a torrent going on one site and would like to seed it on another with the same torrent. azureus says that its possible on their site but im having no luck. I can add a tracker to the torrent when its opened in azureus but when i go to upload to the new tracker, it says that the announce url is not in correct. any ideas?

Re: multi-tracker torrent help

I haven't tried seeding yet, but I'm pretty sure all you'd need to do is make a new .torrent file using the new tracker's announce url (you'll now have two slightly different .toorent files). The reason it's saying it's incorrect is probably because you're using an announce url from one site and trying to connect to the tracker on another.

It makes sense to me, anyway and it can't hurt to try

Re: multi-tracker torrent help

One thing about this..... the two torrents need to have the same hash id. I tried to do this once, but since I wasn't the original person to make the torrent, no matter what client I tried nor what settings I set, I could not get a new torrent made with the same hash id.

I am the person who made the original torrent but i have no clue on how to make a new torrent and specify its hash. can you do this or do you have to specify both tracker urls in the original torrent?

Re: multi-tracker torrent help

Actually i never found out how to accomplish this. I think that the hash info includes the info of tracker(s) you originally specify, so you have to specify both trackers in the original torrent. However, it is possible (however quite devious) to get a torrent going between two or more trackers. heres a thread on that subject http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=3196786. what i needed to know was that multi tracking between sites completely throws off the share ratio system for those sites and is therefore frowned upon on some sites. I saw on the home page of TTD that this topic was mentioned so please let me know if theres another way.

Re: multi-tracker torrent help

thornhill - couldn't you just make two copies of the files you want to seed and make two torrents? Upload one on each tracker? Put them in seperate directories.
