Question Converting Files To Wav and Into iTunes

I downloaded my first show a few days ago. As suggested by U2Lynne I also downloaded the programs "Traders Little Helper" and "Foobar 2000". I did a checksum on all of the audio tracks. Am I also supposed to checksum the graphics and md5 files as well? There were no problems with the shn files, everything ok.

In "Traders Little Helper" how do I convert the tracks to wav files? Please give me step by step if you can or a link to do it. I would like to import these into iTunes by converting them and then burning them onto a cd. Will I be able do do so after converting them to wav? I can play them under foobar 2000 at the moment and it all sounds great. It's a Led Zeppelin audience recording and sounds fantastic for one. No hitches with the download. Thanks.

Re: Converting Files To Wav and Into iTunes

Once you conver them to wav (sorry cant help you with the program, dont use it, but i suppose its easy, just look around) you can burn them using a burning program without importing them into itunes. You can import them into itunes, but make sure you dont have the mp3 encoder on unless you want to burn them as mp3.

Re: Converting Files To Wav and Into iTunes

Like toto, I'm also a Mac user, but I seem to recall someone saying that you can just use foobar2000 to burn the shn or flac files straight to an audio CD. It will convert to wav on-the-fly as part of the burning process.

Re: Converting Files To Wav and Into iTunes

To convert flac files to wav's all you have to do is put them into the flac frontend window and hit the decode button. It's pretty much the same with shn files except you have to use Shorten. Google searches such as "flac frontend" "shorten codec" etc. should yield results quickly. Download these little programs and you'll be good to go

Re: Converting Files To Wav and Into iTunes

Open up Traders Little Helper

Go to the Decode tab
Click Add - A dialogue box will come up asking you what do you want to add - navigate to the folder with the SHN/FLAC/APE files and select them - click OK
Select which of the Decoding Options you want to use - I suggest you select the same options that are shown in the screen shot.
Select the Output Location - where do you want these decoded to?
Click Decode

Why are you trying to bring them into iTunes? To burn them?

Re: Converting Files To Wav and Into iTunes

Thank you everyone for the help info. I'm sure one way it will work. Eventually I will put it into iTunes after burning the files on to cds as wav files so I'll have a copy without any loss and then bring them into itunes as mpeg files so I can put them on my ipod. Thanks again.

you are making it to hard

if you are on a mac use xACT to decode and iTunes to burn and convert to aac for iPod
there is no need to burn then rip them, the files are already on your comp

open xACT
"add" the files that you have as wavs/flac
"decode" the files, i like aiff myself but wav works too

open iTunes
drag and drop the files
set your prefs to "aac" (iTunes will keep the original as a aiff/wav, don't worry)
select convert selection under "advanced"
you will now have the file in iTunes 2 times, once as a aac for your iPod and once as aiff/wav for burning

Thumbs up Re: Converting Files To Wav and Into iTunes

Well everything seemed to work without any problems. What I did was decode the files from .shn to .wav. I saved the finished results in my documents folder. After that I imported each music file into itunes. I then put them onto cd and they were still in their full lossless form after finishing burning them. I listened to the cds and they sound great with no gaps. I converted to AAC for ipod use only. I still have a full .wav copy on cd and the torrent .shn files as well on my pc for reseeding at another time. That will be my next project to figure out how to seed this for another time. Thanks to all for helping me out on this.
