best brand of blank DVD

i was first using memorex DVD-R and just about all of the DVDs that i burned all skip .. . . its pretty shitty (sometimes they will play for a good amount of time on SOME DVD players but sometimes they wont play shit at all). I recently picked up Sony DVD +R discs and they work a lot better maybe like <1 skip/dvd which is fine by me but i was still curious as to which was the best brand of blank DVDs to buy .. . and what is the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?

Re: best brand of blank DVD

Funny you should bring this up I was just looking at the following article, which explains the difference between these two formats (and also has some great links including which type of CD-R dyes last longer in stress tests).

http://adterrasperaspera.com/blog/20...rchival-media/

By the way, the "winner" of the stress test among dyes used for CD-Rs was the dye that looks silver or gold (on the data side of the disc), as opposed to the green or blue/purple dyes found on many CD-Rs. Cyoazinine is the short name of the chemical used, I think.

Taiyo Yuden doesn't actually perform better in stress tests guys. You don't have to believe everything you read...

I like DVD+ and DVD - formatand I havent had problems with TY02 discs or tawainese Verbatims, You can buy these in bundles for very cheap. It is not the brand that matters but who the manufacturer is. see this forum for in depth discussion on blank media

Re: best brand of blank DVD

no doubt ststephen...for PC users, ONES is the ish!!! great program

.......................................

oh and slew, you said that TY's don't perform well under stress tests...but the link you provided above that states the exact opposite, hell thats all that guy recommends! but i still couldn't find the stress test results

i've seen a good bit of data, not to mention numerous people who rely on good media for work, and everything points to TYs as being yer best bet [MAM-A excluded of course, but who's gonna drop $5+ per disc for trading]

do you have links showing the test results?

Re: best brand of blank DVD

even the best blank dvds in a "cheap" $35 burner - will make disks that skip or hang.
food for thought.
