Question iTunes Help Needed

Ok Ok Ok, so here is my problem:

I encode all my CD's to the AAC format, but then a friend asked me to burn him some mp3 CD's, so I used the converter in iTunes to convert to mp3 to a different file. So that was done with.

I then deleted all the mp3's, and then when I went back into iTunes, it showed each song as doulbe. When I clicked on the doubled song, the little exclamtion mark showed up and asked to locate the song. I even refreshed the the library and same thing. So I went back, deleted iTunes, restarted, and reinstalled, and it still shows up both songs.

I am worried that if I hook up my iPod it will do the same thing. And I am WAY too lazy to go through my entire collection and remove the doubled song.

Any help?

Re: iTunes Help Needed

yeah, i had a similar problem with mine, if there is an exclimination next to it, it wont put it on the ipod, because the file is not on your computer. if for some reason it does, you can always "re-do" the ipod...

Re: iTunes Help Needed

i think you need to use apple lossless encoder, or else you will get doubles,

Eliminate Duplicate Tracks Easily

Ever import a “Greatest Hits” album only to find that you already have one or more of the songs in your iTunes music library? Now we offer a handy way to resolve that little complication. iTunes 4.7 makes it easy to find multiple copies of the same song. Just choose “Find duplicates” from the Edit menu, and iTunes will display all the duplicate songs in your music library, making it very easy for you to decide which of the duplicates — if any — you’d like to delete. that may help

Re: iTunes Help Needed

Just delete the tracks with the exclamation points. If you had a mac, you could just download the applescripts and use the Remove Missing Tracks to do it automatically.

Re: iTunes Help Needed

I RULE!

I found out how to do get rid of the songs easily in like two steps.

I did the "show duplicate songs" and the started going through and deleting the duplicates one by one (as there might be like 4 of the same song but from different albums, etc)

And then I realized, wait, there must be a way to organize the songs by "Type" (AAC or WAV/mpeg) and christ, there was! So once I added to that to the columns, and sorted out like that, I just did the Shift highlight all the MPEGS and bam, all gone! SOOOOO HAPPY!
