On the assumption, as Nina stated, that you're talking about a .bak file, it's a backup file. It can contain any data, and is not really a file-type per se, but rather is a place where programs store a backup copy of an original file they are working on in case you want to undo or there is an error. What program are you use that's giving these files?

yes, i am talking about a .bak file
i got a show and one of the songs (files) converted to this instead of .wav
i can not figure out what to do and i usually just end up deleting the whole show.
someone told me to try renaming the file and putting .wav at the end, but that does not seem to work....i know i am doing something wrong and why does it do this in the first place?

When you say the file converted to .bak, is this by MKW? I seem to recall it doing that from time to time. I did exactly what you listed above, just change .bak to .wav, and it worked every time.

I am unsure of why the program does this, and without auditing the source code, I'm not if we'll find out. When you rename it to .wav, what happens to indicate to you that it has "not worked"?

On the rare occasion its happened, thats worked for me too. Just change the extension.

yes it was by MKW and i believe i am changing the extension correctly (renaming the file and adding .wav, right?)--it still shows the type as a BAK file and when i try to open it i can't. this is a 22 min song that completes a show for me and i am really lost here now.

I think I did this before when I was decoding .mkw ... to change the extension, you have to make sure windows is showing extensions (somewhere in the settings), then change the extension from .bak to .wav, it asks "are you sure", click yes and you're set. The file type will change. If you can't find the setting I'll dig it up for you probably tomorrow.

The only time mkwACT creates a bak file is if you decode into the same path.
Change you output path to c:\windows\desktop or whatever you like and it will not show as a bak file, unless you have already decoded the file to that path and decode it a 2nd time.
