Noise reduction
This is Neil Young 1973-11-03 currently seeding on EZT and the lineage is given as CD-R (rust tree) > EAC > WAV > FLAC .
On the frequency analysis you can see a drop at about 15 kHz and then a sort of second wind which tapers off fairly naturally. The first drop is clearly visible on the spectral analysis, which could fairly be described as blocky. I see this double drop phenomenon a great deal from a variety of quoted sources and I've come to the conclusion that it's the consequence of some form of noise reduction rather than lossy encoding per se. I have another copy of this show with a wholly natural looking spectral analysis so whatever has happened is not a consequence of the recording equipment etc. Is it necessarily the case that blocky=lossy ?

Re: Noise reduction
lol I just found this thread after 2.5 yrs... if you're still reading looks totally lossy as far as I can see.
