ISO EAC Configuration Tutorial

After reformatting my pc, I'm looking to re-install EAC and configure it correctly (secure mode, correct offset, ...) but I can't seem to find the guide I used last time around. I searched through the technobabble archive but couldn't find it. Anyone with any pointers ? Thanks in advance.

oop would have saved you some time to copy the config before the format...

read offsets are set by 'accuraterip' automatically and well, but strangely the write offset you have to figure out for yourself still

I just installed EAC most recent version that came out recently, my question is regarding the interface configuration as displayed in the coaster factory link listed in other post. Installed external ASPI interface: (Default: Enabled, Recommended: Enabled) An external SCSI/IDE interface, called ASPI, will be used. For best compatibility you should use the one from Adaptec. Obtain the Adaptec ASPI layer.
Native Win32 interface for Win NT & 2000: (Default: Disabled, Recommended: Disabled) The SCSI/IDE interface used will be the one provided by EAC. This works only for Windows NT and Windows 2000, but it could result in some problems because bugs could occur anytime.

On my EAC it does not allow the change. See attached snapshot. My OS is Vista which as far as I know for now, there is no Adaptec ASPI layer available for.

Should I just ignore this, and if not what kind of problems may occur that you are aware of. Should I download the ASPI layer for XP even though i am running Vista ? Other options ???? Thanks.

from what I can gather, you don't need to download this since it is for windows 95/98/ME. I put EAC on a windows 98se machine last year and still did not need this download.

accuraterip will configure the read offset automatically these days so long as you're connected to the internet. it is completely reliable in my experience. however, for some reason it doesn't set the write offset set the write offset using the old coaster factory guide, then to test if you've got it right 1) extract an audio cd, 2) burn an audio cdr, 3) extract this audio cdr to a second folder, 4) generate st5 checksums for both filesets, they should come out identical (the do on my computer).

what this means is that you can burn-rip-burn-rip over and over without alteration to the files (a very tricky business!!). but overall, just the read offset is the critical thing don't trade audio cdrs or copy them over and over and over and everything is fine.

I just like to set the read offsets so that I can do the full test, extract-burn-extract to be absolutely positive the offsets are correct... a little obsessive & perfectionist but once its done it stays done for the life of the particular drive(s) in that comp.

ps if accuraterip keeps phoning home everytime you put in a disc even after your settings are done, disable it by finding accuraterip.dll in the EAC folder and re-naming it with a ";" at the beginning or ".bak" (no quotes) at the end or something, then change it back if you need to.

strangely, nothing about write offsets (did I miss that page?). it is beneficial to set read offsets and write offsets separately mainly for the purpose of doing the rip-burn-rip test to find out if your offsets are truely 100% correct for your system. While the accuaraterip database is faultless afaik and very reliable its nice to see it through and at the end say to yourself, "wow, its really perfect now".

but this is for geeky-types only... setting the quality settings high as possible and using the accuraterip value (automatic) is adequate for 'normal' people, and almost certainly perfect
