DVD copy question
I know when you copy an audio disc, say in a trade, its best to use EAC.
So when you go to copy a dvd, is there a certain way to do it so you wont lose quality or what-not. I would guess the best way might be to just save the orginal files and do it that way.

Re: DVD copy question
I usually make a disc image (iso) to my hard drive and then burn that. It seems the most straight forward way for me. However, if I'm putting a DVD on my drive to torrent, I make an md5 checksum of the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD, then copy the VIDEO_TS folder to my hard drive and then run the md5 checksum against the copied contents. I think there is an application called DVD Decrytor for PCs to copy the contents of a VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive (I'm not sure of the name since I'm on a Mac and there isn't something similar).

Re: DVD copy question
yea use dvd decrypter, then burn with nero.. you cant use DVD shrink if you trying to copy a larger 8gig disc. it will shrink it to fit your disc.....

Re: DVD copy question
it depends what format the DVD show is in--"data disc" or "DVD-Video"? if its just a data disc with the Video_TS folder on it, yuo can just copy/paste to yer HD and then burn in data format to send...if its a DVD-Video [i.e. one you can watch on yer standalon DVD player] then you'll need to decrypt it using DVD Decrypter or similar program.
for trading, its best to always archive and trade in data disc format with md5s, as extraction can lead to glitches... No members have liked this post.

Re: DVD copy question
I used dvd decrytor (thanks for the help guys) and was able to take care of 2 dvds with no problems. But with a 3rd I ran into some problems. I posted the output log on another tech forum and the people there seem to think the disc is dirty/damaged. I cleaned the disc and it doesnt look like its messed up or anything. Still no luck though. So Im going to post the log here too, just too see what anybody else thinks..

Re: DVD copy question
ouch!
does that DVD play okay it's just that you can't rip it? here's another thing you could try... open the DVD like you would a normal data DVD. you will see AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS of course. generate an .md5 directly from the DVD (I use md5summer). Do it from the highest level of the DVD so that the generated checksums have VIDEO_TS/ in front of the filenames something like this: 35d4c99aa765e23f9a2875158f3b53e4 *VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.BUP 35d4c99aa765e23f9a2875158f3b53e4 *VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO 5348c8ddbdb2ef3ae8d6d36bbab87a2a *VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.VOB 3965a46cc37105df9c03c9b54a2d1b0b *VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_0.BUP 3965a46cc37105df9c03c9b54a2d1b0b *VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_0.IFO 473a8ffe7dee609555e909d6f647f18e *VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB 459a78d5948c47f6434d62eb91cc57c7 *VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_2.VOB Then save this somewhere. Now go to the DVD with explorer (or whatever) and drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to your folder that the torrent for the show will be generated from (e.g. someband2005-07-10.dvdf). Now put the .md5 you generated from the DVD into the "someband" folder alongside the VIDEO_TS folder you just copied and run it. It will tell you whether there is one iota of difference between what's on the DVD and what you copied to your HD. Also try playing the DVD off teh HD using Media Player Clasic or whatever to make sure it works okay just in case. Then make a .txt file etc and go ahead with it so long as the checksums verify okay. hope this helps

Re: DVD copy question
RENTS -> probably disc has been incorrectly burned. It happens when you burn at maximum speed a disc may handle.
Also, if you don't have XP try to install Adaptec ASPI which is much better than this provided with Win (9x, Millenium). Install most recent eprom for your burner. No members have liked this post.

Well upon watching it again last nite, I see that now, its skipping around and freezing and dropping out here and there. Never did it before. Its just strange. I made a copy for a friend in May, worked out fine, I watched it right after that, worked fine. Now, like I say, its not playing right. Ah well....
