Question Burn SHN file direct to CD R

I'm a little lost - I just got started with downloading shows. I have a show that someone wants to trade for - mail only - but they want the SHN data files only - NO AUDIO.

My problem is that my files FLAC and SHN go thru WINAMP plugin - the SHN files now read WINAMP file - THIS MAY BE A REAL DUMB QUESTION, but are these files the same? Or do I have to convert them back to SHN then burn to CD R.

If I have to convert them back - how do I do it?

After I figure this out I will need to learn how to post (seed) my shows - but this lost newbie can only deal with one issue at a time.

Re: Burn SHN file direct to CD R

nope, you don't have to convert--there still shn files...

just burn the show's folder [shn's, md5 checksum, info text, etc] as a "data disc"...NOT an AudioCD. in nero, it'd be the "CD-ROM (ISO)" disc type.

Re: Burn SHN file direct to CD R

OK, I don't have NERO, but I did burn the folders using my standard data burning - highlight files and send to blank CD R, then burn the data. I have been buning data (word, PDF, and excel docs) this way for years.

I have a Dell with windows xp and a CD burner - when I look back at the disc the files are listed as WINAMP. Are they the SHN that the trader is looking for?

Re: Burn SHN file direct to CD R

What is the extension for the files? Did you run the md5 checksum for the files after you burned it (that will tell you that the files didn't change).

Re: Burn SHN file direct to CD R

99% most likely they are SHN. it is just telling you which prog opens SHN in your setup. to check for sure, you've gotta go to folder options and find the setting that displays extentions, then set all folders to display like that. then all yer files will show up

blahblahblah.txt
blahblahblah.shn

etc

Re: Burn SHN file direct to CD R

foobar2000 can also do audio cdrs. Does anybody know of a free prog which can burn data cds like nero? And please not "burn4free" adware-infested type stuff.

If you want good, free software, check out Source Forge.

I'd have posted a specific burning burning app, but I haven't tried any of them and I don't like to recommend something I have no experience with.
